Manipura Chakra is located in the Solar Plexus, above your navel. It means the “City of Gems” with its function being power and action. Issues of self- esteem, assertiveness will come up. It is your “Fire” center and looks after digestion (liver, spleen, stomach, small intestine). The gland associated with it is the pancreas. One can develop indigestion, ulcers, diabetes etc. if this center is not balanced.
You can show your children how to strengthen the 3rd chakra and practice yourself. A simple posture is leg lifts. You start by lying on the back with the legs straight out on the floor and together. As you inhale, engage the abdominals and press the low back into the earth as you lift both legs up to an angle (30, 60 or 90 degrees) so your muscles work out. On the exhale, you very slowly lower the legs back to earth and continue. Use your creativity and make a game of it with your child e.g. your legs reach up to the highest star in the sky and come back to earth.
The symbol is a red triangle that represents the fire element and the animal is the RAM. Not surprising the mantra is RAM. The 3rd chakra is associated with “Pitta” the Ayurvedic dosha, with its function to metabolize food. It also relates to Vision, the eyes.
It vibrates to the key of E and is associated with the color YELLOW. The vowel is OH/AH. Do a short sound meditation with this vowel visualizing this chakra, including the color, for 1, 2 or up to 5 minutes. This enhances the meditation.
